Remember the Time

Remember that time,
The warmth in the air,
The buzzing of bees,
The sweet smell of tulips,
Covered in pollen,
The smell of old, dry, dusty bark
Struggling to stay stuck to the trees.
That was SPRING.

Remember that time,
The clear still glass of refreshing water,
The blazing hot sun,
And the tall, green grass,
The beautiful chirping of that bird,
High above your head,
Perched on that branch.
The juicy ripe fruit,
And the dark seaweed
Covering the salty sea.
That was SUMMER.

Remember that time,
The multi coloured leaves,
Falling slowly, hitting the ground,
With not a sound to be heard.
Quickly moving rakes,
The giant damp leaf piles.
And the big fights,
The cold chill air that get shoved
Down your back.
That was AUTUMN.

Remember that time,
Cold frosty mornings
And the ice covered windows.
The gliding snowflakes swoop from the sky,
Landing on the white covered ground.
The deep tyres tracks engraved in mud.
Your skis gliding down the busy hill
Dodging the obstacles.
Your warm thick mittens
The warmth of your hot chocolate as it passes your lips
Your bright blazing fire,
As the coziness runs out to tickle your toes.
That was WINTER.

Rob's Story

New Zealand Poem

NEW ZEALAND
By Kailey

Remember that time,
When you went on a trip around New Zealand,
In that humid, old caravan.
Remember how you started in Paeroa,
And stared at the giant L&P,
Standing before you.
Remember how you took a big gulp
Of L&P and how it
Fizzed and popped in your mouth.
That is New Zealand.

Remember that time,
When you travelled down to Rotorua,
And watched the bubbles
Swarm all over the mud pools.
Remember the burst of a geyser,
As it does it’s best
To reach the clouds.
Remember that stinky smell
Of sulphur.
That is New Zealand.

Remember that time,
When you zoomed down to Queenstown.
Remember the exciting feeling,
When you slipped your
Skis onto your feet.
Remember how the snow
Jumped into the winter atmosphere,
As the gravity
Pulled you down to the end.
That is New Zealand.

Remember that time,
When you carried on down to Dunedin,
And entered your biggest dream.
Remember that mouth watering
Stream of chocolate,
And the excitement,
As you raced to each taste-testing station.
Remember that drooling smell
As you stared aimlessly through the glass.
That is New Zealand.

Molly's Book Review

Northwood

The book I have just read is called Northwood by Brian Falkner, an amazing New Zealand author.

I love this book because it is different, funny, sad and full of friendship and loyalty.  Sometimes it will make you laugh and sometimes it will make you cry.  It is one of my favourite books by my favourite author.

My favourite character is the main character...  Cecilia Undergarment she is kind, smart and friendly.  She lives in a balloon house with her dad and stepmother.  But not the kind of stepmother that is horrible and only loves her own daughters.  Cecilia is an only child and her mother died when she was giving birth to Cecilia, so she has been living with her stepmother most of her life and calls her stepmother mum or mummy. But it all changes when she finds Rocky the starved Samoyed dog ...

My favourite part in the book is when Cecilia and Jana (the housekeeper) plan to rescue Rocky from the horrible Mr Proctor. But then when Mr Proctor finds out his dog is gone the end of the plan backfires. Cecilia and Rocky end up in Northwood, a place where people go in but never come out!

I would recommend this book for anyone who likes a great mystery story and is aged 10+.  I would rate this book 9 out of 10 and each time I read it (which has been a few) it gets better and better.

I also forgot to mention that Cecelia can talk to animals....!

Brooke's Pathways

Brooke decided to do some research on the Loch Ness Monster for one of her Pathways. She found out some very interesting facts and decided to present her research in a poster.

Leave us a comment on what you know about the Loch Ness Monster. Do you think it is true?

All Blacks Training

On Monday the 10 June, Callum and I went to Rugby Park for training with the All Blacks. We were each given a top which put us into groups. Callum was orange and I was blue.
When we arrived at Rugby Park we had to show our security pass to get in then we went up into the stand and got our boots and mouthguard ready. There was a selection of trophies: Webb Ellis Cup, Bledisloe Cup, Woman's World Cup and the I.R.B Trophy. We went and got our photos with them then we got called to the field.
We split up into our groups and went away to different places. Each group had a coach. Orange’s coach was Fletch and Blue had Lee Golding and Warwick Taylor. They took us through a couple of drills involving passing, tackling, communication and side stepping.
About 20 minutes into it there was a voice through the speaker saying, “Can we please have a cheer for the All Blacks”. They ran onto the field. In Blue Group we had Ma’a Nonu and Francis Saele. Orange had Brodie Retalic and Sam Whitelock. They joined in the games and helped us a lot. 5:30 came and they called us to sit down and they handed out an award to one person in every group and then we got some signatures on our T-Shirt it was a GREAT night.

Learning in Room 7

This is George working on his newspaper that has to be in on Friday. The newspaper is about Kiwiana history and culture. It is 8 pages long and a good exercise for the brain. Did you know that Colin Murdoch invented the injection.

Fun Run

On the 7 June the years 4,5,6,7,8 walked down to the domain to do the school fun run. First up were the year 7 and 8 girls to run around the domain and the Springston Pony Club. While  the girls were running the rest of the middle school and seniors were doing the fun activities that had been organized for them. When the girls got back the year 7 and 8 boys were off to do the same length run as the girls. Then the year 4,5,6 girls were to run the pony club and half the field. When the last girl crossed the finish line the year 4,5,6 boys were off and racing. After that the year 4,5,6 went back to school as the year 1,2,3 come to do their races. As the speedy year 1 and 2s raced around the field 2 times the year 1s and their buddies did the activities. Once the year 2 and 3s finished the year 1s got ready with their buddies. They were off like little lightning bolts whizzing around the field 1 time. Once everyone was finished it was time to pack up.

Thank you Wendy for organizing this for us and thank you Springston rugby club for letting us use your equipment and Springston Pony Club for letting us onto your land and using your jumps.
